As Steve Would Say: "Boom!"

Thumbscrew is a great tool for taking an image and producing a smaller version (a thumbnail) and adding some effects — tasks that would otherwise require launching an elaborate graphics manipulation app such as Photoshop. Just drop the originals on its well — several at once if you like.

Out of the box it produces pseudo old style photographs; bordered, angled just-so with a nice drop shadow. By default these are saved in PNG format so the shadows will properly render over differing backgrounds.

It's quite flexible in that you can set the maximum angle of slant of the resulting thumbnails, as well as the border color and file type. Set the angle to zero and the size to 400 pixels and you've got a great tool for producing instant blog-ready images as shown below.
